Spomini iz Modrega salona / Memories from the Blue Room

... with all concentration and resistion, from pleasure to pain, I am looking for a secret passage in the magic which changes tons of material to tones of a distant, mysterious musician. Where heavy masses of materiality are converted into pure abstraction, where the shackles of materiality bleak to climb into the realm of spirituality. This is perhaps the central core of architecture, its eternal quest, meaning and mission. All the rest are just episodes, dazzling glimpses of the never completed and definitive way of searching. Some of this searchings and efforts as well as realizations are in every building or design; if lacking, this is not architecture and remains only building. Through tasks and their importance as well as through a vision and imagination of architects, this core condenses and intensifies. It reaches its peak in the design of a church building and of church interior. Two poles are placed there in all purity: liturgy in the broadest sense, which is a complete abstraction and architecture, which is masterfully controlled materiality. Routes and shore options are endless for architects and remain wide open today as they were in the former covenant styles; only their invention, talent and discipline raises the bar criteria from here to eternity ...
