Ob osnovnem cilju prenove, da predvsem do izgradnje nove knjižnične stavbe izboljša in posodobi delovanje osrednje nacionalne knjižnice (knjižnično – informacijske zahteve, prostorske možnosti in ureditve za sodobno delovanje, infrastrukturna posodobitev vseh instalacij in komunikacij, nova podkletitev za instalacijske prostore in sisteme, obnova fasade, izgradnja trezorja za hranjenje najdragocenejše kulturne dediščine, statična in protipotresna sanacija ter tehnično varovanje) je arhitektovo prizadevanje usmerjeno v nadaljevanje Plečnikovega, s svetovno vojno prekinjenega dela. Vendar ne s posnemanjem oblik, pa tudi ne s kontrastnim ločevanjem starega in novega, temveč s polnokrvno ustvarjalnostjo, v kateri je doseženo predvsem enako učinkovanje in doživljanje. Ob zavzetem sodelovanju bibliotekarskih strokovnjakov NUK in vodstva projekta pri MVZT RS je knjižnica v celotnem obdobju prenove normalno poslovala. Within the basic goal of renovation to assure, especially until the new library building is built, an improved and modernized functioning of the National and university library (library - information requirements, spatial arrangements and possibilities for contemporary performance, infrastructure modernization of installations and communications, new basement floor for installation facilities and systems, renovation of façades, construction of the vault for the most valuable national cultural heritage, static and earthquake safety improvements and technical safety measures) the architect’s endeavor is focused on a self-evident continuation of architect Jože Plečnik`s work, interrupted by the second world war. However not by imitating his forms, neither by contrasting relationship between the old and the new, but with a full-blooded creativity, which gives before all the same impression and experience. At the committed participation of library professionals at National and university library (NUL) and management of the project at Ministry of science and technology, Republic of Slovenia (MVZT RS) the library was fully functional and open to the public through the whole process of renovation.
